If you have posted your information on some matrimonial site seeking a good match, be wary of any strangers who get in touch you to become your life partner. It is likely the person may be a fake or a conman. The latest incident that has come to light is that of 31-year-old Krushna Chandrasen Devkate, who duped a number of women by making false marriage proposals and allegedly raped them as well. He has now been arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch.
Devkate had made several fake profiles on a number of matrimonial sites, including Jeevansathi.com and Shaadi.com. And in the process duped over 25 women and collected more than Rs 50 lakh from them, making a host of false excuses.
A complainant in the case has alleged that as she was looking for a match for marriage she uploaded her information on one of the matrimonial sites. After a few days, the accused Devkate sent her a request. Going through Devkate's profile in which he mentioned that he is a government employee at Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), she liked his profile, besides she desired to meet him in person and also spoke to him over the phone.
Later, Devkate and the victim met on several occasions and he molested her as well, many times he used her credit card without her permission, he used to takemoney from victim by making several excuses, but suddenly he stopped speaking to her and start ignoring her, fed up with his behavior victim approached the Charkop police and lodged the FIR against him.
According to Crime Branch sources, after the FIR was lodged against Devkate by the Charkop police by 37 year-old woman in April this year, the cops formed a special team to nab him. “He was on the run from that time, for the last two months we are working on this case, but from reliable information we came to know that accused Devkate is residing in Kalyan and has criminal past record as well,” added a police source.
“Initially we collected entire information which he uploaded at matrimonial sites, we reached his residence and nabbed him, during the inquiry accused revealed that, he made several profiles on matrimonial sites and used these sites to target various women, initially it was found he duped more than 25 women which is on record but it is suspected that he duped other women too who did not approach police stations,” police said.
Accused Devkate was booked under sections 354, 354 (A), 406, 417 and 420 of IPC, he was produced before court and sent into Police Custody, and has been handed over the Charkop Police for further investigation, police added.
